The Red Tree Warriors

As we prepare to launch an international art project ‘One Red Leaf at a Time’, The Red Leaf Creative Collaborative will be sharing some red leaf interpretations inspired by The Red Tree and ME. Here, Caroline, parent and carer for a young adult with Very Severe ME and member of The Red Leaf Creative Collaborative, introduces us to The Red Tree Warriors.

Prior to becoming a full-time carer for her daughter with Very Severe Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), Caroline worked as a couture bridal wear designer. Inspired by The Red Tree and ME Messages of Hope, especially the quote from Dr Lucinda Bateman, she has channeled some of her creative energy into delicately crafting and writing about The Red Tree Warriors:

In the heart of a forgotten forest, where the air trembles with both silence and ancient power, there stand warriors unlike any other: The Red Tree Warriors, draped in the vivid red hues of a tree whose roots run deep in the earth, anchoring both the land and the spirits of those who endure in silence. The Red Tree Warriors are a protector, a symbol of strength and hope for those whose battles go unseen - the warriors of ME.

Each thread a tribute to the resilience of ME patients across the world, who, though hidden in the shadows of illness, rise every day to fight an invisible war. The warrior echoes the beating hearts of those whose struggles are often forgotten or dismissed. The Red Tree Warriors are a beacon in the darkness, reminding them that they are not alone. In their presence, the winds whisper of solidarity, for the Red Tree Warrior knows that only through unity can the world begin to understand the pain that comes with ME.

The Red Tree Warriors’ strength is their strength, their courage, is their courage. The warriors move through the forest, offering empathy like a gentle breeze, understanding the weight of exhaustion that pulls at every fibre of ME patients’ beings.

The Red Tree Warriors embody the quiet awareness that ME patients live with every day; the fight is unseen, but it is fierce. The warriors’ mission is clear: raise awareness, share their story and honour the strength that comes from enduring what the world does not understand. They stand, an unwavering testament to those who suffer, a living flame of hope that one day, the world will see them, truly see them, and recognise the warriors they are.
